City to Recover Some Incentive Cash

By Bill O'Neil

The company has fallen short of it's job creation goal--but that doesn't mean city leaders are any less pleased with Medtronic's impact on the community.

The goal set out five years ago was 13-hundred new jobs--a mark a Medtronic subsidiary will miss by more than one-hundred. That means the City will recover some incentive cash.

"The final 184 jobs--$1,792 per job equals $330,000" said City Economic Development Director Rene Dominguez, who added the company does eventually expect to reach those 13-hundred new jobs.

Meanwhile, Councilman Ray Lopez said the missed mark shouldn't cast a shadow over all of the good the medical device technology company has done.

"It clearly again is within that industry cluster that we have to be aggressive about in bringing to San Antonio" Lopez said.
