President Barack Obama could put a big number in front of Congress as soon as Monday--with a request for $2 billion to help send thousands of undocumented immigrant children being held in Texas back to their home countries.
The crisis has already put a big strain on a number of communities close to the border--to the tune of more than $1 million in McAllen.
"It's not fair to our taxpayers--it's not fair to the charities to have to front those monies, when really this is a federal situation" McAllen Mayor Jim Darling said, adding it's time for Washington to send a very clear message.
"I think the promise of being able to stay here is fostering the rumors that are going on. Whether that happens or not, that's really up to the federal government to enforce" Darling said.
