Protesters plan to spend at least part of their Fourth of July marching to the Alamo.
"Immigration reform is dead--but it's not dead in the movement of people who have been waiting for hope" said the Cesar Chavez Foundation's Jaime Martinez, who is organizing the Independence Day demonstration. Martinez told 550 KTSA News one of the big messages behind the march is a call to halt deportations.
"After the Senate voted on a comprehensive immigration reform bill (House Speaker) John Boehner refused to take it up for a vote" Martinez said.
Marchers will assemble at the Chavez Service Center on East Commerce at Hackberry at 10 AM Friday.
