Students Win Neighborhood Improvement

By Kurt Gilchrist

A group of McAuliffe Junior High School students wanted a safe route to school--so they put a petition together and presented their argument to the city.

"They put together these great, hand-written letters that came in to our office" said Councilman Rey Saldana--who said ground broke on the work Monday. The Councilman said the sidewlak will help provide a safe route to school on the frontage road of Loop 410--from the school to Old Pearsall Road.

"This just leads me to believe that soem of them are going to be future councilmembers, lawyers, engineers... whatever they want to be, because they're getting a taste of what it's like to make real change" Saldana said.
