The Bexar County Sheriff's Office finds itself at the center of a wrongful death lawsuit nearly two years after a young army reservist was shot and killed by a veteran Sheriff's Sergeant on the far northwest side.
The question of what led up to the shooting of Jose Guerra the night of October 14, 2012 continues to haunt his family.
"We know that he was unarmed. We know he was 19 years old, and he was brought up to have a very strong respect for authority" said attorney Sean Lyons, who represents Guerra's family. Lyons told 550 KTSA News the family can't un derstand why the Sheriff's Office will not release information on the shooting, which took place near Guerra's brother's home, following a reported altercation.
"At this time, it does not appear that the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, or Bexar County has been served with a lawsuit--or that we have ever been given legal notice about a civil claim in this matter" said Roseanne Hughes with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
