A lawman from Central Texas looks to the past for inspiration--and says it's time to round up a posse to help his agency out.
It's something many in law enforcement are dealing with these days--fewer dollars and more to do--which is why McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara has put out the call.
"So far, the resposne has just been overwhelming. The calls are coming in every day" Sheriff McNamara told 550 KTSA News. He said the volunteers will not have law enforcement duties--but they will have a big role to play.
"When we had the West Explosion, we were short handed" McNamara said, adding "We could have certainly used some extra people assisting people in many ways, maybe parking cars, taking people to hospitals."
The Sheriff said the volunteers--who would all be required to undergo background checks, could also assist in a missing person search.
