SAPD Cracks Down On Drag Racing

A woman caught up in the San Antonio Police Department’s Drag Racing Initiative in the Southeast Side has been arrested and charged with 3 counts of endangering a child.

Officers conducted a sweep Sunday night on S.E. Military Drive between Goliad Road and Ih 37 , making a total of 14 arrests. They also towed 14 cars.

“Racing is not just a simple traffic citation. It’s a Class B Misdemeanor. You will be arrested and your car will be towed,” said officer Douglas Greene.

If anyone is injured, the punishment is more severe.

“If the drag racing causes serious bodily injury or a fatality, you”re looking at a felony offense which brings prison time,”
said Greene.

Six arrests were for racing, 7 arrests were for reckless driving, and one driver was charged with possession of marijuana.

“We had officers observe a woman driving recklessly and they found three children in that vehicle,” said Greene.

The woman was arrested and charged with 3 counts of endangering a child and her vehicle was towed.
