SAPD Officer Shoots Armed Man Near Lady Bird Johnson Park

A man with a rifle is shot by San Antonio police.

We’re told the man was a mechanic at a shop on Nacogdoches Road near Lady Bird Johnson Park. SAPD Chief William McManus said he was apparently distraught over the relationship with his estranged wife.

“He approached, he would turn, and go back in the office. And, he would approach again” Chief William McManus said following the shooting.

The Chief said officers spent twenty minutes trying to de-escalate the situation before the man approached officers with his rifle–leaving them no choice but to open fire.

At last check, the man was rushed to the hospital. His condition was not known.
