SAPD Ready for Trump’s Arrival

SAPD is readying for Donald Trump’s visit to San Antonio Friday.

“We support Secret Service,” Chief William McManus said. “We’ll provide traffic, crowd control, that sort of thing…but Secret Service is the lead on this, and ours is a support role.”

Officers were briefed Tuesday morning about some details of the plan for Friday. Protesters are expected and the Chief said it’s their right to do that.

“We work with all groups no matter what the issue is,” he said. “If there’s protesters, we protect their first amendment rights.”

He said police are prepared to keep the peace, if necessary.

“I don’t believe that our San Antonio folks are going to mimic what went on in other parts of the country,” McManus told reporters. “That’s not what we do, that’s not what we’ve done here.”
