Search Continues for Man Who Sparked Amber Alert

A successful end to an amber alert, but a wanted man remains on the run.

“Back on the 28th, that’s the last time anybody saw Fortino Cornejo and his 14 month old daughter Kalia Martinez,” Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesman James Keith said.

A couple days later, Cornejo lost custody of the child to the girl’s mother. He was supposed to send the child, but didn’t.

“Instead, he sent a photo to the mother, a very graphic, lewd photo, that gave our investigators reason to believe that this child had been sexually assaulted,” Keith said.

That’s when the alert was issued. Just a few hours later, the girl was found safe in the Dallas area, but the father got away and is still on the run.

“We have reason to believe that he is dangerous, he poses a threat to any child that he’s exposed to, and we need to work together to get him off the street,” he said.
