Like the San Antonio Police Department, Seguin is looking for police officers.
“Currently, we have three open positions in patrol,” Deputy Chief Bruce Ure told KTSA News.
More openings are anticipated early next years too, so the department is recruiting now.
“It just takes a very special person who has the right heart and is in the right physical shape and mental shape to take on this type of challenge,” he said.
And with the deadly ambush of Detective Benjamin Marconi Sunday morning in San Antonio, it doesn’t help make recruiting easier.
“When somebody tells a family member that they want to become a police officer, it’s quite often somebody will try to talk them out of it because there is an inherent danger, I believe, much more today than there was 15 years ago,” Ure said.
He said it’s a different type of danger now.
