It’s part of a new volunteer program at Animal Care Services. It’s called Puppy Tales.

“It’s an opportunity for kids to do something that helps the animals here at the shelter,” ACS’ Lisa Norwood said. “That is reading to them, calming them down.”

And that will help make those puppies more adoptable. It’s also good for the kids’ literacy skills.

“You get the opportunity for a student to read aloud,” Councilman Rey Saldana told KTSA News.

And it gives these kid volunteers a mission this summer: “to read to an animal who has the potential to find a forever home,” he said.
