It’s a huge economic boost for the city of Austin.
The 2016 edition of South By Southwest begins today and over the next 9 days, it’s estimated the festival will bring in over 200 million dollars to the city.
Of course there’s plenty of controversy surrounding the event. President Obama’s appearance has raised a few eyebrows since he’s skipping the funeral of Former First Lady Nancy Reagan to be in Austin.
Even Mayor Steven Adler created a stir when he advised the city’s residents to stay home today to help with traffic congestion. South By Southwest runs today through the 20th.
Meanwhile, Having your work on display at South By Southwest is getting to be an annual event for a Senior at St. Mary’s Hall.
17 year old Alexia Salingaros says she’s submitted two of her short films to be shown at the festival and for the third year in a row, her work has been chosen.
One of her films is about a classical dance from India while the other is based on a 19th century poem.
They’ll both have a viewing tomorrow and next Saturday at the South By Southwest Film Festival.
Alexia says even though it’s her third trip to the event, she’s still excited about it.
