The Texas State Trooper in the middle of a controversial arrest has been indicted in Waller County on a misdemeanor charge, but now his future with the department is in question.
Trooper Brian Encinia has been charged with perjury for conduct related to a contentious traffic stop of a black woman who was eventually arrested for assault. Three days later, the woman died in jail.
Encinia had been on desk duty since 28-year-old Sandra Bland was found dead in her cell in July.
Following the indictment Wednesday, DPS announced plans to begin the termination process to discharge him from the department.
Encinia is accused of lying about how he removed Bland from her vehicle.
