Women seeking abortions are getting a booklet that says the procedure might cause breast cancer. That’s because Texas law requires the pamphlet to be given to women at least 24 hours before a scheduled abortion.
It includes information about a developing fetus and potential risks of abortion, along with complications of giving birth.
However, the section about abortion being a cancer-causing risk is drawing fire from the American Cancer Society and other organizations.
The Cancer Society says that scientific evidence “does not support the notion that abortion of any kind raises the risk of breast cancer or any other type of cancer.”
