SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A 13-year-old boy has narrowly escaped serious injury after a truck crashed through his bedroom. The family was sleeping when the pickup veered off the road and smashed through the Northeast Side home on Galahad at Raybon around 4:30 this morning.

Monica Garcia thought it was thunder, but when she woke up, she saw part of the wall of her bedroom had come crashing down.

“The only thing I could think of was my kids. The truck went through my room and I thought my kids were gone, but luckily they weren’t,” she said, fighting back tears.

“One of my daughters was in her sister’s room, so only my son was there and he was underneath the truck,” she told KTSA News.

Rocky Garcia said a mattress overturned and covered his son, protecting him from the impact. He says he tried to get the driver to help get his son out, but the young man ran off. It didn’t take officers long to catch up with him and he’s being charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

No one was seriously hurt, but Garcia told KTSA News that his son and two daughters were taken by their grandmother to a hospital for observation.

He lashed out at drivers who speed through his neighborhood. Garcia says another vehicle recently veered out of control and crashed into a truck across the street.

“It’s these youngsters in the trucks. They want to step on the gas and drive like maniacs,” he said.
