15 year old dies in crash while attempting to get away from New Braunfels Police

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A 15 year old is dead after trying to get away from police in New Braunfels.

KSAT-12 reports the officers were called to the Rivertree subdivision at around 2 A.M. Friday.

There had been multiple car burglaries in that neighborhood and when a resident encountered the teen suspected of the crimes, the boy got in a car and drove away.

Police spotted the vehicle as it was turning onto Highway 46. They attempted to stop it but the driver sped up.

Officers followed him as he raced toward Seguin but when the boy attempted to turn on Mary Boulevard, he lost control and hit a utility pole.

The vehicle caught fire and police were able to get the boy out of the car but he was unconscious and not breathing.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the only person in the vehicle and no other injuries were reported.
