SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A 16-year-old boy was arrested outside a New Braunfels elementary school after leading police on a chase Monday morning.

New Braunfels police say someone called 911 to report their vehicle had been stolen from Eikel Street at around 8:40 a.m.

Police found the stolen black Nissan Titan pickup truck going southbound on the Interstate 35 frontage road, making a left turn at Rueckle Road to continue north on the frontage road.

Officers tried to getting the driver to stop, but he refused, choosing to try to speed away.

The driver turned onto FM 1044, then onto Klein Road to eventually stop on Lonesome Creek Trail where he would bail on foot.

Police say he ran across a field toward Voss Farms Elementary School.  Police immediately notified the school, which placed the campus on a precautionary lockdown.

Officers were able to arrest their suspect in the front parking lot of the school.

A New Braunfels police officer suffered an ankle injury during the pursuit.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and a charge of evading causing bodily injury.
