SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – K-nine units and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol gathered outside San Fernando Cathedral Friday for a special blessing of the law enforcement animals.

“They are beautiful animals and they are trained for the service of all of us. We should be grateful,” said Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says they are grateful for their K-nine partners and horses.

“We know that these animals would absolutely run through fire just to hear a word of praise for us. They would do so much more than that just to keep us alive and well,” said Salazar.

Via Metro Transit officer Charles Salsedo was there with his K-nine bomb-sniffing partner, Rocky.

“We search bus terminals and buses for suspicious or unattended packages,” said Salsedo.

October 4th is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment.
