AAA: Gas prices up in San Antonio, steady across Texas

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Gas prices are holding steady across the Lone Star State, but the same cannot be said for drivers in San Antonio.

Heading into the last week of September, you are paying an average price of $2.92 per gallon for regular unleaded in the Alamo City. That price is 16 cents higher than what you were paying a week ago, and 64 cents more than the statewide average price at this time in 2019.

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas.

That price is the same as on this day last week and is 59 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. On the flip side, it is also 50 cents more than at this time five years ago.

“Fuel price averages are expected to remain lower as Autumn begins and the switchover to winter-blend gas gets underway. However, there is a possibility that retail fuel prices could fluctuate as the Energy Information Administration’s latest data indicates an increase in demand for fuel and lower supplies regionally,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso metro area are paying the most on average at $2.96 per gallon while drivers in the Brownsville-Harlingen area are paying the least at $2.63 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.22, which is the same price when compared to this day last week and 62 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose to 9.2 million barrels per day, while regional Gulf Coast gasoline stocks fell to 81.2 million barrels per day. This news could lead to price fluctuations on the retail level for gasoline.
