AAA: San Antonio gas prices drop, Texas holding steady

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A week ago, you were seeing a 15-cent increase in the average price for regular unleaded fuel in San Antonio, but this week the script has been flipped.

For the second time in a two-week period, the Alamo City is sitting at $2.99 per gallon for regular, and it is uncertain where prices will go as summer winds down.

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.05 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA Texas.  That price is one cent less than a week ago and is 41 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso metro area are paying the most on average at $3.27 per gallon while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.85 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.44, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 42 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand edged higher last week from 8.96 million b/d to 9.04.

Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 225.1 to 222.2 million barrels. Gasoline production decreased slightly last week, averaging 9.7 million barrels per day. Tepid gasoline demand and stable oil costs may cause pump prices to slide further.
