AAA: Travel should be frequent beyond Labor Day weekend

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Labor Day weekend is coming up, and AAA is expecting travel to continue well beyond the holiday stretch.

Among the reasons for the likely uptick in Texas travel are reduced COVID-19 restrictions and a steady drop in the price of gas over the course of the summer.

AAA recently conducted an online survey that showed some different dynamics at play for this time of year.

“In the numbers, we see that about 73% of people will travel at some point after Labor Day this fall. But we also know that roughly 32% of Americans will travel for Labor Day weekend with about 12% that will go 50 miles, or more, for their destination,” said Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas.

Texans who will be traveling over the Labor Day extended weekend will likely be going to the following locations:

The survey shows that 82% of Texans traveling for Labor Day will do so by car, and that means a busy weekend for road assistance. AAA Texas anticipates coming to the roadside rescue of 17,725 stranded drivers from Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5. To avoid a breakdown on a road trip, AAA Texas recommends drivers inspect tires, batteries, belts, hoses and fluid levels, or have vehicles inspected by a trusted mechanic, like the ones at a AAA-Approved Auto Repair facility. For those planning road trips, AAA reminds drivers to make traffic safety a priority. Drivers are urged to get at least 7 hours of sleep before a long journey, make sure everyone is buckled up, obey speed limits, and “Don’t Drive Intoxciated. Don’t Drive Intexticated.”
