LOS ANGELES (AP) – During his long career, Ed Asner had more than 300 acting credits.
But the one he will be best remembered for is that of newsman Lou Grant, of the hit comedy, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” A representative for Asner confirmed Asner’s death in an email to The Associated Press.
And Asner’s official Twitter account included a note from his children announcing his death yesterday.
Asner was 91.
He won three best supporting actor Emmys for his work on “Mary Tyler Moore” and two best actor awards for his work in the spinoff, “Lou Grant.”
He also won Emmys for his roles in the 1970s miniseries “Rich Man, Poor Man” and “Roots.”
