SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A milestone for Matthew McConaughey.

The actor best known for Dazed and Confused, Magic Mike and Killer Joe hits the half century mark today.

The Academy Award Winner was born in Uvalde, Texas on November 4th, 1969 and moved to Longview when he was 11 years old 1980.

After spending time in Australia, he made his way back to Texas to attend the U-T Austin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television and Film in 1993.

His first acting roles in the early 1990’s were in local TV commercials and a Trisha Yearwood music video.

McConaughey’s career took off in the early 2000’s when he starred in a steady stream of romantic comedies including The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch and How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days.

His dramatic roles include A Time to Kill, Amistad and The Wolf of Wall Street. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2013 for his portrayal of Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club.

McConaughey still lives in Austin with his wife and 3 children.
