Armed standoff comes to a peaceful end on San Antonio’s South Side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A standoff that began late Tuesday night and continued well into this morning has come to an end.

It began just after 10:30 P.M. when a man who was walking around in the parking lot of the HEB at Ada and South New Braunfels threatened to shoot himself unless someone called the cops.

They showed up and the man held them at bay for nearly 12 hours.

Police and SWAT team negotiators tried to talk him into putting the gun down but it took a breakfast taco to finally get him to give up.

Negotiators sent in some cigarettes and the taco and while he was eating it, they fired of a non-lethal “sage” round and took him into custody just after 10 A.M. Wednesday.

No injuries were reported and the man’s identity wasn’t released.
