SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Arson is suspected in a fire that prompted the evacuation of a downtown hotel.

Woody Woodward with the San Antonio Fire Department told KTSA News is started in a storage closet on the second floor of the Valencia Hotel around 2:30 this morning.

“The fire was under control and extinguished very quickly,” said Woodward. “It did not extend beyond the storage closet.”

The sprinkler system was evacuated and there was no significant damage, but the hotel was evacuated as a precaution.

“Any time that there’s any type of fire or even a thought that there may be a fire, we’re going to do some evacuations as a precaution, especially when it comes to something like a hotel or a high rise building,” said Woodward.
