Auto tech company to break ground on New Braunfels facility

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — New jobs are coming to New Braunfels.

Continental, an auto parts technology company is about to break ground on a 215,000 square foot, $110 million facility on Kohlenberg Road. That’s on the northeast side of the city, just off northbound IH-35.

The new plant will produce sensors used in advanced driver assistance systems.

Continental already has a facility in Seguin but there has been significant growth in the number of vehicles equipped with the new technology, forcing the need for more production.

The New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation offered up an incentive package of a little more than 5 million dollars for land acquisition grants and  infrastructure improvements.

More than 500 people will be employed once the new location is operating at full capacity with the average salary of $48,500 annually.

Most will be transfers from the Seguin facility.

Ground will be broken for the new facility this spring and production is expected to begin next year.
