Former Bexar Co. district attorney suspended over threats

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The agency that oversees Texas lawyers has suspended the law license of a former Bexar County district attorney for one year, finding he committed professional misconduct by threatening two defense attorneys during a murder trial.
On Tuesday, a State Bar of Texas grievance committee also ordered Nico LaHood to pay nearly $10,000 in attorney’s fees. The decision came after a state district judge’s 2017 testimony that while in her chambers, the then-district attorney threatened to destroy the practices of the opposing lawyers.
LaHood has repeatedly denied making the threat. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
One of the defense attorneys in the incident, Joe Gonzales, defeated LaHood in the Democratic primary last year and went on to replace him as district attorney.
