SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Getting into , out of or through Houston is going to be tough for a while due to a major highway closure.

9 barges broke free of their moorings and some of them have collided with the I-10 bridge over the San Jacinto River.

The remnants of Tropical Depression Imelda dumped several inches of rain on the area and the storm created rough conditions on the river. The barges were at a shipyard but now, they are stacked up and there could be structural damage to the bridge.

TxDOT can’t inspect for damage because the water is still too high and too rough.

They haven’t announced when the bridge will reopen.
