BCSO: Man arrested, charged in shooting death at illegal rave party
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of a suspect accused in a fatal shooting in March.
Jonathan Arriola, 20, was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the death of Desirae Rivera, 21. Investigators say another man was shot during the incident, but he suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting happened at what Sheriff Javier Salazar called an illegal rave party on the Southwest Side. The gathering was taking place at a Knights of Columbus hall on Old Pearsall Road.
Shots were fired around 4 a.m. and deputies then responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the two victims with gunshot wounds, but Rivera died before reaching the hospital.
Detectives say Arriola was drunk and had gotten into a fight at the party before he was kicked out. Before leaving, BCSO says he pulled a pistol with a switch and fired numerous rounds at the venue. Investigators say the switch effectively turned the semi-automatic weapon into a machine gun.
Arriola was arrested on Thursday, and authorities say he worked construction at the SpaceX site in Brownsville.
This is a developing story and KTSA News will give more details when possible.
