SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A 14-year-old Bexar County boy and his 75-year-old grandfather were charged in the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy in northern Bexar County last month.

Bexar County sheriff Javier Salazar said the grandfather, Robert Lee Voigt, had gifted his grandson a gun, which had usually been kept in his residence.

On September 28th, the boy took the gun out of that house to clean it in an RV he lived in on the property.

The sheriff said the boy, the victim and their friends were hanging out and playing video games.  At some point, the boy was holding the gun and pointed it at his 13-year-old friend.  He pulled the trigger once, killing his friend.

The boy had originally told police his friend had shot himself, but later admitted to what had actually happened.

Salazar said the boy had been seen on the property in previous days walking around out in the open holding the weapon.  The sheriff described it as an AR-15 style weapon with interchangeable barrels.

The boy is facing a manslaughter charge.  Voigt is facing a charge of making a weapon available to a child.
