Bexar County Deputy arrested for assaulting inmate

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News)– A Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested for assaulting an inmate.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says surveillance video shows 34 year old deputy Peter Martinez assaulting the 43 year old inmate Tuesday evening.

The Sheriff says the inmate had some words for  Martinez prior to the assault.

When the inmate was questioned about the assault he chose to press charges against the deputy.

The inmate is being held on aggravated robbery charges and was not seriously hurt in the assault.

Martinez is facing charges of assault with bodily injury and official oppression and will be terminated.

His bond has been set at $10,000.

He has been with the Sheriff’s office for 5 years.
