SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A Bexar County jail inmate is in a medically induced coma after trying to kill himself in his cell.

Deputies found 35-year-old Rondell Peterson hanging in his cell Saturday afternoon.

Deputies and the jail’s medical staff began life saving measures before Peterson was taken to University Hospital. He remains in critical condition.

Peterson along with 18 year old Carolin Mitchell are accused of abducting a 15-year-old girl from Houston and bringing her to San Antonio. The pair contacted the girl through Snapchat and had promised her $2,400 dollars for a sexual encounter.

The girl was sexually assaulted twice before she was left on the side of Interstate 10 in Schertz.

Peterson and Mitchell were arrested last Friday on charges of trafficking a person. Peterson is also charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
