SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – It was close, but this one didn’t get away.

A 33-year-old inmate booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on drug possession and firearm charges managed to get away from his unit Monday. He made his way into a cell for prisoners who were about to be released, but he was nabbed just in time.

A deputy in Sergio Pablo Huerta’s newly-assigned unit noticed he didn’t arrive and called the booking desk . Deputies found Huerta and placed him on Emergency Management Intensive Supervision Status. A spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says Huerta never made it out of the secured area of the jail and there was no threat to the public.

BCSO’s Public Integrity Unit, Internal Affairs, and Criminal Investigations Division are probing the escape attempt.
