Bexar County Jail inmate suffers medical episode during booking, dies at hospital

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — An inmate at the Bexar County Jail died just a few hours after he was arrested.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Thursday night when 50-year-old Paul Anthony Sarabia was in the booking section of the jail and began having an unspecified medical issue.

Deputies began life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived to take Sarabia to an area hospital.

He died at the hospital soon after arrival.

BCSO says at this point it appears Sarabia was detoxing when he began experiencing the medical episode but his official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

Sarabia had been arrested on a theft charge.
