Bexar County Salazar calls Trump a “self serving man’ during speech at Democratic National Convention
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A “self serving man”.
That’s how Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar described former President Donald Trump while speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Salazar took the convention stage Wednesday , making a quick speech in which he claimed Donald Trump actually made things worse along the U.S/Mexico border, while saying Democrat Presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been “fighting crimes at the border for years”.
“The border sheriffs that I know, and I, we’re like Kamala. We protect and serve. We enforce the law. We show compassion, and we fight like hell to protect our border. Because as we’ve always known in Texas, cuando luchamos, ganamos. When we fight, we win.”
Salazar also remarked that Trump killed a border bill, making reference to a bipartisan package that didn’t make it through the Senate earlier this year. Salazar said Trump told GOP lawmakers to not support the bill, because it would give Democrats a win.
“When Donald Trump comes down to Texas, stands next to officers in uniforms just like mine, he’s not there to help us. Don’t think that, not for a second. He is a self-serving man”.
Salazar’s comments Wednesday night are in contrast to statements he made in 2022 in which he said he was “disappointed” by the lack of action by the federal government.
Salazar claimed he had written to the Biden administration three times to ask for help at the border.
