SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The Bexar County Sheriff says thanks, but no thanks to a proposed pay raise. Salazar says he can’t in good conscience accept a salary hike at a time when deputies are worried about whether they’ll be compensated for their work.

This week, Bexar County Commissioners approved $1.7 million dollars for overtime pay for deputies, and the sheriff’s office is having to reallocate funds to ensure employees are fairly compensated.

They’re about to enter contract negotiations with the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County, so the sheriff is rejecting a proposed salary increase for himself saying ,”Leaders eat last.”
