SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is installing a speedy full-body scanning system to screen incoming prisoners.

The Intercept by Tek84 takes only 4 seconds to conduct a full-body scan using low levels of X-rays transmitted through the body, similar to medical exams. It will allow booking deputies at the Justice Intake Assessment Center to quickly screen incoming prisoners for possible weapons, contraband hidden in body cavities and concealed contraband in clothing.

Inmate commissary funds were used to purchase the Tek84, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s office plans to purchase additional full-body scanners for the Adult Detention Center and Annex Jail.
