Bexar County to mail voter registration forms, AG Paxton threatens lawsuit
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is threatening a lawsuit against Bexar County over a plan to mail out voter registration forms.
In a letter to commissioners on Monday, Paxton warned against the measure saying it could lead to those not eligible to vote to register anyway. Further, the Attorney General says the forms could lead to some putting false information on the forms, which would be illegal.
Nonetheless, KENS 5 reports commissioners voted 3-1 to approve the measure, which would send voter registration forms to targeted areas agreed to by the county. Unclear is which areas are included in the blitz of voter registration forms.
The county plans to pay Civic Government Solutions to print and mail out the forms at an estimated price tag of $591,122.
To vote in Texas, a person must be a U. S. citizen, live in the county where they have applied for registration to vote, and be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
Commissioners approved the measure Tuesday morning, and dozens attending the meeting spoke out against the idea on the grounds it was a ‘partisan project.’
