Bexar County unveils its new Reentry Services Center.
It’s a one stop shop for inmates leaving jail.
“It’s about keeping people out of our jails in a continuous cycle,” County Commissioner Tommy Calvert said. “We used to say ‘lock’em up and throw away the key,’ and we found out that didn’t work because people have substance abuse, chemical imbalances in their brains that needed to be treated medically.”
He said this center will allow groups, agencies, and businesses to come together to work with the formerly incarcerated.
“We have to do more to help folks get and stay on the right track, and fix the root causes of their crimes,” he said.
It’s a place for help and training for former inmates, to help give each a second chance.
