SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A New Braunfels bicyclist was seriously hurt when he was struck by an SUV in an Interstate 35 turnaround lane Wednesday afternoon.

New Braunfels police say the 64-year-old man was riding his bike at around 4:40 p.m. in the wrong direction in the southbound to northbound turnaround lane near the I-35 Access Road at Spur Street.

Police say a Nissan Rogue was traveling at or below the posted speed limit when it was struck by the bicyclist.

He was taken to SAMMC to be treated for his serious injuries.

The female driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash.

The southbound Interstate 35 access road was closed for about 45 minutes while crews worked on the scene.

Police continue to investigate, but don’t expect to file any charges.
