Big Road Projects on Fast Track

A couple of major highway expansion projects could be getting underway a little quicker in the San Antonio area.

The Texas Transportation Commission could vote as soon as February to spend $1.3 billion to do just that for a number of projects that are planned around the State.

“We’re very fortunate in San Antonio that we have two of them (projects) that we will be receiving funding for–which will add up to $171.4 million” said Laura Lopez with the Texas Department of Transportation, who told KTSA News the projects include an expansion of Loop 410 between U.S. Highway 90 and State Highway 151–and an expansion of U.S. Highway 281 between Stone Oak Parkway and the Comal County Line.

“The 410 project will begin this year” Lopez said, adding “With 281, that project wasn’t going to be starting until 2019 or 2020 because we still have to acquire right of way–we will be accelerating that.”

Lopez said that project could start as soon as 2018 if the cash is approved.
