SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Democratic Presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg is kicking off his nationwide campaign this weekend in San Antonio.
His website says Bloomberg will be at Viva Villa Restaurant in Market Square at 8:30 Saturday morning. The visit comes exactly one year after Bloomberg announced San Antonio as one of five cities to receive up to $2.5 million for climate change policies.
January 11, 2019, Bloomberg was flanked by Mayor Ron Nirenberg as he talked about awarding funds to the city from Bloomberg Philanthropies and providing two employees to lend technical and scientific support to implement climate initiatives.
“Cities are helping to keep America moving forward on climate change despite the lack of leadership from Washington, and this challenge was designed to help innovative mayors reach their goals,” Bloomberg said that day.
Exactly a year later, Bloomberg is coming to town to launch his “Mike Will Get It Done” bus tour. His campaign website says,”Join us on Day One, our first nationwide show of support for Mike and his progressive vision for the country.”
After his San Antonio event, the former New York mayor’s bus tour will depart San Antonio and make a campaign stop in Austin at 12:30 before visiting Dallas that evening.
While other candidates are focusing on Iowa, Bloomberg is investing his resources in Texas and its large number of Democratic delegates.
He’s opening more than a dozen campaign offices in the Lone Star state, including one in Dallas on Saturday.
