Boerne will see at least 12 weeks of closures at SH 46 near I-10

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Texas Department of Transportation said a major closure is coming to State Highway 46 near Interstate 10 in Boerne that will have noticeable impacts on commutes for the next 12 weeks.

TxDOT is working to complete a new six-lane bridge at the intersection of SH 46 and I 10 as part of the I-10 Kendall Extension project, a $100 million investment plan to improve roads, ramps, overpasses, interchanges and bridges in Kendall County. The next phase of construction will begin on July 6.

For the next six weeks, TxDOT said drivers will see closures on SH 46 from Home Depot to the I-10 frontage road that includes a traffic shift onto temporary pavement, closure of the right-turn lane in front of Whataburger on approach to the eastbound frontage road and no access to the Whataburger driveway.

After the first phase of construction is completed, crews will work on reconstructing the road as it approaches the SH 46 bridge for an estimated additional six weeks. This will bring additional closures that officials said will be announced closer to the start of this phase of construction.
