SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A portion of I-10 in Boerne will be closed this weekend while the Texas Department of Transportation demolishes the U.S. 87 bridge.

The closure will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and is expected to finish by 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

TxDOT officials said crews will need to close both directions of I-10 from SH 46 to Scenic Loop Road in Kendall County for 56 continuous hours in order to safely remove the bridge.

Westbound traffic will be detoured at Main Street and will be directed along the westbound frontage road to the next available entrance ramp prior to SH 46.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured along the eastbound frontage road and drivers will be allowed to enter back onto the highway just east of Scenic Loop Rd.

Officials said no through traffic will be allowed at Sceneic Loop Road under I-10 and will be detoured onto the frontage roads. Northbound traffic will be detoured to the Balcones Creek intersection and southbound traffic will be detoured to the SH 46 intersection.

TxDOT said southbound Main Street traffic will not be allowed to cross over I-10 for the duration of the closure and will be directed to turn right onto the westbound frontage road to the SH 46 intersection.

The bridge demolition is part of the I-10 Kendall Extension Project which aims to improve frontage roads and overpasses along I-10 from SH 46 to Fair Oaks Parkway in Kendall County.
