Carey tops survey of most “annoying” Christmas songs

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The sounds of Christmas are back.

The Salvation Army bell ringers. The Ho Ho Ho’s of shopping mall Santas. And those familiar melodies of Christmas songs that you love…or loathe.

A British survey conducted by the mobile phone company Huawei asked respondents about the Christmas songs they find to be the most annoying.

Topping the annoying list…Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

Carey’s holiday love song was first released in 1994 and in the 25 years since, it has become a staple of Christmas playlists. On Christmas Day of 2018, the song set the single day record for the most streams on Spotify. The music streaming service reports the song was played nearly 11 million times that day.

It has sold over 16 million copies, making it the 12th best selling single of all time.
Even with the heavy sales, streams and airplay, it apparently annoys the living daylights out of a lot of people.
