SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Mayor of Schertz will not seek re-election.

Michael Carpenter announced he’s not going to try for a fourth term.

“I believe the time has come for another citizen to enjoy that distinctive honor and singular privilege.”

Carpenter says it’s the right time to pursue new chapters and new opportunities. He hopes they will include future public service in some form.

He will continue to serve in his position until a new Mayor is elected in November.

Carpenter, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, was voted on to Schertz City Council in 2005. He was elected Mayor in 2012.
