CBS moves ‘Evening News’ to Washington

NEW YORK (AP) – The movers have done their job as the “CBS Evening News” sets up shop in Washington starting this week.

The move of Norah O’Donnell’s newscast to Washington makes it the first of the network evening newscasts to be solely based inside the Beltway. Some broadcasts have split time there in the past, with NBC’s famed Huntley-Brinkley report in the 1960s the most memorable.

The ABC, CBS and NBC nightly newscasts have been New York-based for more than 30 years.

CBS hopes to take advantage of O’Donnell’s long experience as a Washington-based reporter.
