Celebrate July 4 at the Alamo starting Friday

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Independence Day is a three-day celebration at The Alamo in San Antonio, including a performance by Fort Sam’s Own 323d Army Band and the 313th Army Band on Friday.

The joint Army band performance will be free to the public and start at 11 a.m. on Alamo Plaza. Spectators will be treated to renditions of God Bless America, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and variations of a Shaker Melody.

Fort Sam’s Own 323d Army Band, headquartered at Fort Sam Houston and assigned to U.S. Army North, is a concert band comprised of 41 active-duty U.S. Army musicians led by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jared DeLaney.

Visit The Alamo Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to see a variety of demonstrations including weapons, medicine, artillery, drill, and firing. Interactive activities include kids’ drill, candy cartridge making and learning to make yarn and corn husk dolls.
