SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Mayor of Chicago is still going after Senator Ted Cruz over gun control.

The two engaged in a Twitter exchange on the topic last week.

There’s a Washington Post op-ed that was published last night.

In it, Mayor Lori Lightfoot says Cruz suggested that she should put aside gun-control policies that have failed in Chicago for decades.

Lightfoot disputes his claim.

She noted that the sixty-percent of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside Illinois. She writes that her city’s gun laws will always be weak as long as people can drive from Illinois to Indiana and purchase a personal arsenal without a background check

Lightfoot goes on to accuse Cruz of “half-truths” and “cherry-picked stats” in an effort to score political points with his base and donors.

“We need leaders who will listen to us and work with us, not just use our city as a dog whistle at country-club fundraisers and conservative political conventions.”
